Causes of Earwax Blockage
Overall, it is healthy and normal to have production of wax (cerumen) as it protects the ear canal. Usually, blockage occurs when earwax is impacted due to hearing aid use, earbuds, hearing protection, ear canal anatomy, surgeries, and/or the use of Q-tips.
Symptoms of Earwax Blockage
You may feel as though sounds are more muffled, experience temporary ear pain or itchiness, and it could also result in an ear infection of the out ear.
How Does Audiology Center of North Texas Treat an Earwax Block?
Dr. Casey will look in the ear canal to determine if there is a build-up that needs to be removed. She will decide the best method of removing the earwax (cerumen). This may be done by instrumentation and/or by irrigation depending on the amount and type of wax found. Sometimes, the ear wax may need to be softened before removal can be completed.
